Getting a new phone can be a very exciting event, but the next ‘headache’ usually is how to transfer your favourite files to your new phone.
The power of Android phone is that it comes with an expendable mircoSD card slot so that you can transfer your files easier when you switch from one handset to another.
However, if you are a 1st time Android user, how can you transfer your files from your computer to your Android phone?
There are 2 ways of doing so.
METHOD ONE (1)
Plug in your microSD card into your computer/laptop. You may need to use a microSD card adapter as most of the computer/laptop reads SD Card only.
For ease of management of your files, create folders to store your files.
If you are transferring Music files, you can create 2 main folders, ‘AUDIO‘ and ‘MUSIC‘. The Audio folder will contain files which you can use it as your alarms. messaging (‘notifications’ folder), and ringtones notifications, while the MUSIC folder will contain all the music files that you wish to store in your microSD card and utilize it in your Android phone.
Once completed, eject the microSD card from your computer/laptop and plug it into your Android phone, and you can start playing your music files in your Android phone.
METHOD TWO (2)
Alternatively, you can plug your Android phone to your computer/laptop using a microUSB cable. Once connected to your PC, you should see a small USB icon in the upper left corner of your phone.
Drag the notification bar down and you will see a notification titled ‘USB connected’. Tap on it.
If you do not see this option, please go to the Settings page by tapping on the Menu button. Next, select the Applications option from the list in Settings. Select Development and click on the checkbox beside USB Debugging on the next screen.
Once you tap on it, you should be able to see the following screen typically.
For some specific models, they may have their own interface for mounting the memory or SD Card to your computer/laptop
For newer HTC models, select the option ‘Mount as Disk’ from the options available
For Samsung models, open the Application, select ‘Settings’ from the Menu button. Then select ‘Wireless and Network’ followed by ‘USB Utilities’. Select the option ‘Connect Storage to PC’ and then select OK to confirm
Open the application list and select Settings < Wireless and network < USB utilities < Connect storage to PC, then select OK to confirm.
You will see on your laptop/computer a new disk icon that will read the contents of the microSD card. You can continue with what was given in Method ONE(1) to create the folders and transfer the files to your SD Card.
Please remember to eject the mircoSD card from the computer/laptop AND click on the ‘Turn off USB storage’ button on your Android phone before you plug out the USB cable from your Android phone.
Once completed, you can enjoy your music and other files in your Android phone!
