HTC announced two new phones – HTC ChaCha & HTC Salsa early this week, where these 2 phones are built entirely to be social, combining the simplicity, ease-of-use and depth of HTC SenseTM with the power and connectivity of Facebook®.These 2 phones were presented during in a HTC-SingTel launch event early this week.
What’s so speical about this phone? Isn’t it ANOTHER HTC Android phone?
These 2 phones comes with a dedicated Facebook button, where it is context-aware, gently pulsing with light whenever there is an opportunity to share content or updates through Facebook. With a single press of this button, you can update your status, upload a photo, share a Website, post what song you are listening to, ‘check in’ to a location and more. For example, you can take a photograph of friends on your phone and upload it instantly to Facebook by simply pressing the button. Or let your friends know what song you’re listening to by pressing the button while listening to music on the phone. The track is automatically identified and shared on Facebook.
In addition, the HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa make it simple to stay in touch with your friends using Facebook Chat and Messages on your phone. Your Facebook messages and conversations are integrated within your phone and appear within your text and email inboxes alongside your regular conversations.
These phones features the latest Android Gingerbread 2.3.3, the latest version, together with the latest iteration of HTC Sense to integrate Facebook throughout the HTC Sense experience. When you make a phone call, the dialer screen displays your friend’s latest status and photos, and even tells you if their birthday is approaching. The same updates are also displayed when you receive a call from a Facebook friend. You can also use your phone’s existing contacts to help you connect with them on Facebook or personalize your handset further with a number of new, Facebook-branded widgets.
Personally, what I like about this phone is that it comes with a full QWERTY keyboard where it makes typing easier and less of a hassle. Even though I have been using a full screen touch-smartphone over the past 3 years, I missed the feeling of typing on a ‘real’ keyboard on the mobile. The keypads on the phone is very easy to type, in a ‘better than BlackBerry’ way~~~
Speaking of BlackBerry, the design of this phone reminds me of BlackBerry, which I supposed this may help to attract and pull away users of BlackBerry to this phone. With the low pricing of $438 with contract & $0 in most of the SingTel plan, I reckon many youngsters and teenagers will be the first group to switch over to this phone!
Oh, did I mention that you can play Angry Birds on the handset, and you need not flip your phone to landscape mode to play it? The phone orientation is set as landscape by default, but when I install my app, SBS Next Bus, which is set as portrait by default, the smartphone is indeed smart enough to show it in the landscape mode!
The HTC ChaCha is now available in stunning shades of Modern White, Phantom Black and Amethyst Purple exclusively through SingTel and SingTel authorized retailers at a suggested retail price of $438.
The HTC Salsa will be available in Blue through all mobile operators and authorized retailers at a suggested retail price of $568.
